The Right to Organize
Under the Railway Labor Act, it is illegal for a carrier to:
Interfere with employees’ right to organize or to remain unorganized
Interfere with employees’ rights to bargain collectively through representatives of their own choosing
Interfere with the right of a majority of any craft or class to select the representative of that craft or class
Terminate or discipline an employee because of his/her union activities
Offer employees improved benefits or other preferential treatment that are intended to undermine union organizing
Support “company unionism”
Prohibit the wearing of union insignia during an organizing drive
Interrogate employees to learn of union activities
Engage in surveillance to learn of union activities
Require job applicants to sign any contract or agreements promising to join or not to join a labor organization
