To Your Health
By: The Committee for
Change We have created a special page on our web site in the Health & Safety section with information and news on staph infections: http://www.teamstersatual.com/Staph%20Infections.htm As some of you may have heard or read in the news, there is a growing problem with adults and children contracting antibiotic-resistant staph infections called Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, also known as MRSA. In April of this year, we posted an article about staph infections titled, “MRSA Staph Infections: Coming to a Workplace Near You.” Since that time, this type of staph infection has become more prevalent. Once associated and confined to hospitals and long-term care nursing facilities, it’s now showing up in schools, gyms and even in some work places. We have put this information on our Health & Safety web page to provide you and your family with some facts and simple precautions you can take in order to protect yourselves and your families. We have not heard of any cases of staph infections at UAL. The Centers for Disease Control has set up a page on their web site dedicated with info and a Q & A section for parents, students and teacher/educators about MRSA:
http://www.cdc.gov/Features/MRSAinSchools
We also have added an audio podcast on our website from the CDC about MRSA. The podcast can be found by going to: http://www.teamstersatual.com/Staph%20Infections.htm and clicking on the yellow and red link on the left side of the page which reads: “Podcast Staph Infect”. We will continue to add new info and news about this issue on our website as it becomes available. |
