UAL Mechanics for Teamsters

WE’VE FILED FOR OUR TEAMSTER ELECTION!

It has taken us months of hard work to get to this point, but we are finally here! We are thrilled to announce that we have filed with the National Mediation Board (NMB) for our TEAMSTER ELECTION!

The countless hours spent contacting active and furloughed UAL mechanics—from California to New York and everywhere in between—has paid off. It has resulted in thousands of signed Teamster authorization cards and affidavits and has brought us to this point—to filing for our Teamster election!

We announced our filing at a press conference held in Chicago, the hometown of United Airlines headquarters. We wanted to ensure that Glenn Tilton & Co. got the message loud and clear: Teamsters are in the house!

There is a strong sentiment among all mechanics that a change in representation is critical and urgent. The filing of the election petition is a historic step toward saving our jobs, maintaining our standard of living and securing our futures. Both IAM and AMFA supporters realize the jeopardy our industry and jobs are in, and are getting involved by working with us for this important change in representation.

What happens next? There is usually a wait of up to two months while the NMB goes through the process of substantiating the cards, and determining the list of eligible voters, and then it’s on to an election.

Every mechanic at United Airlines who supported our efforts and gave us the power to move forward toward this goal is to be commended. We’re making a change, and it’s been a long time coming. The list of individuals that worked long hours and often months away from their families is far too long to print here. This includes not only Teamsters Airline Division members, but individuals from every area of the Teamsters Union from around the country! The Teamsters have proven to us time and again that they have a serious commitment to building a union of mechanics and will represent our interests, something which we have no doubt been lacking under our current “representation.”

But IT’S NOT OVER YET. Our next labor intensive efforts will be aimed at getting out the vote! It’s down to the wire and we have to keep working. All of you that have supported us can help with the continuation of what started as a grassroots effort, by talking to everyone you know about the importance of VOTING!

Thank you to everyone who was involved with this campaign. The road ahead has now become steeper and we ask that the support we have received continue as we move toward an election date.

Once again, thanks to all our friends and supporters! Membership with a union that has the competence, will and resources to take on United is in sight! When it comes time to vote, please VOTE!!!

On behalf of our fellow UAL mechanic-Teamster supporters across the nation, we are proud to sign our names below.

Best Regards,
